The Untold Story of Heroism
The next Generations After program will explore the relatively unknown story of the role of Jewish women resisters during the Shoah. As historians delve more deeply into this history, it is helping to expand our understanding of the term “resistance.” Women’s crucial role in the struggle against Nazi brutality occurred not only in the fighting units of the partisans, as spies and couriers, but also in the ghettos and concentration camps in everyday acts of courage. Women were central to finding and distributing food to the most needy, keeping Jewish rituals alive during holidays and Shabbatoth, in educating children, and in caring for the dead. Hear a prominent historian provide an overview of this riveting story and hear women resisters themselves describe their awe-inspiring deeds. More details in the April newsletter.
